20090318 Santiago to Puerto Montt
|
Puerto Montt was a surprise. Clearly, it gets cold here. It
had a LOT of very interesting architecture, and a LOT of new construction.
We stayed "downtown", which was overrun by high-school kids -- possibly just the time of day? The hotel (A Holiday Inn Express!) was next to a giant (new) mall, which was more-or-less next to a "park" next to the harbor. I was wandering by myself, and drew quite a few stares. |

| Culture shock; I was not expecting...architecture in southern Chile. This church is apparently made out of wood, columns and all. |

| Archietecture in Puerto Montt varied greatly. Lots of very modern buildings. |

| I guess this would be near the main plaza in Puerto Montt. An amazingly SteamPunk-ish section, with an ant sculpted from plate metal and industrial gears. It is in front of an old barn, next to a pair of very, very beat up steam locomotives. |
